lighter weights & heavier springs accomplish the same thing springs are easier to change back though ,I would use what you can find as long as the length works
the stumbling could be numerous problems , try chaning things until the stumble changes , float level could ba a problem but doubtful with 2 different carbs unless the fuel pump is weak

Mike,
I had been dealing with this as well and i dont think its quite over due to the fact that i need to jet the carb. but, here is a word doc. that i cut and pasted all tips from here, moparts, moparnuts onto one page so i could print it out and look at it while i was tuning. and i believe the allen key size is 3/32.....

My Delco springs are different and the only ones I can find anywhere for Mopar are the performance ones I already have in it, anyone know where I might find a place to get some? or if I have to take wieght off to do it any ideas on how many grains to remove for a starting point? I need to back of about 500 RPM before my total is reached.

What I did was to put 2 light springs on the same posts together. Yeah, work really good, once install they look like 1. Just make sure where the hoop bends is facing just like the 1 already on.

That was just cause the advance was not always closing all the way once the motor was off or idling. Not sure if your stumbling is because of the advance or just a weak spark.

I do know once I put in a MSD 7 al over the 6 box, many problems went away. Like not idling good when motors cold, a bog when flooring my 750 dp too fast from a stop and fouling sparking plugs from bad valve seals. All is good now with just moving up to a 7 al box. And most where telling me I was wasting my $$$

I like the MSD box's too. They have good stuff.

What I found with timing is too much total isn't good for the motor, causes excessive heat and others issues. Too much base leads to hard starting and some other things. The EPA likes the timing retarded because it burns up all the fuel better than advanced timing does. I found too much advance and retarded leads to less mileage and less performance. You have to get it right with either your springs and your adjustment just like everybody said. 2500 RPM is enough to check total timing. Everything should max out at the speed. I found with the big cam motors you need the base up higher to keep it from stumbling and better take offs. With the vacuum it takes a bit to kick up the timing and by then you back fire out the carb.

If I run the Cuda more than 12* base after it warms up it can get hard to start and that leads to starter problems, overheating your cables, messing up your flywheel.

and make sure your dwell gap is set correctly.

I'm running 13 BTC at idle and 34 total and not useing the vac at all.  the large amount of initial is kicking my total all in at 2000 and causing stumble from 2000 until about 2500 ( that's my theory anyway) then it runs hard and smooth all ther way up, this is only at full throttle under load I shoud say. I'll give the double spring idea a try.

As for hard starting, I haven't notice that but then I have a high tork mini starter.

Thats the thing with setting stuff away from stock, you change 1 thing, then you need another thing. Like the base timing, give it more than stock, then you need a race starter for it.

Change the spark box to a MSD and really with the 7 and higher boxes, then you need the best spark plug wires, dist. cap and rotor or you get a miss fire or worst yet-crossfire. I notice my plugs and rotor wear out quicker too.
