I have yet to witness an MSD gain HP over an ignition systm in good condition but the rest work & for less $$

With all the mods I've made in the last 15 years, I've probably added at least a 1000hp!  You know how it goes: You polish the valve covers, and it feels like it has more power! :)

Well I went on Speed Talk and ask why F.I. is not use on more race cars. Seems like the racers can not agree which makes more power, carbs or F.I.  :grinyes:

Everybody who thinks MSD 6 boxes make more power-and I am not sure they do-should try the 7 or 8 boxes, those for sure make more power. Too bad MSD had to "upgrade" the 7 box, now its over $500 new, ther was nothing wrong with the MSD 7al but now its the 7al plus...

In one of the car mags (can't recall Mopar Action, Mopar SOmething or Hot Rod) they did do a back to back test of EFI versus carb.  They used the same manifold and found that the EFI actually had less HP than a really well tuned carb.
However, the EFI did make more power quicker, just not at WOT.  I'll have to see if I have the mag, it was very recent.

Well the type of F.I. where it bolts right where the carb goes is not the best type. That uses 2 or 4 injectors. I would think the best type is mounting the injectors right at the end of the intake ports for each cylinder. Then it uses 8 injectors. 1 for each cylinder.

Thats what I have always heard; At WOT, go with a carb.

I would love to have EFI but I will not consider it at all unless I either luck onto a great deal or they bring their prices down from the cost of a good supercharger kit.

You think about it, why should it cost so much ? The injectors can't cost that much to make. The computers-well that might be it but look how cheap some desk top computers are now-I would think a $1000 would be more than enough, thats with having 8 injectors. As for just replacing the carb, it should be about the same costs.

Whats needed is for more company's to make them but with limited demand, just Holley and Eddy is making them and they are keeping the prices high.

Even carbs are over priced, look how everything else is cheaper today, like car radios...we are getting ripped off.

Talking to my Dyno guy today he has witnessed 60+ gains over well tuned carbs so a lot has to do with the program written into the puter

In all honesty, with a little know how and electronics skills you can piece together a multiport EFI system for around $1000.  Most of the kits that are out there are overpriced and many of them are not as tunable as they could be.  The ones with lots of options are quite expensive, upwards of $4000.  You can build your own system for a 1/4 of that price with all of those options and more.  I plan on converting my Challenger over to EFI centered around a Megasquirt setup I will assemble myself.

I believe it.

Go to pep boys and get some F.I. for a 1988 motor, make your own computer, wire does not cost that much...but us old timers have enough problems just posting pictures on the web

I agree to a point but to get injectors large enough to feed a high HP 440 I went with cheaper high impedence 58 lb / hr injectors & they were $100 each , hard to build the rest of the system for $200 when the fuel pumps were $200 each & we needed 2 to flow enough fuel
