Weiand Stealth intake manifold or Edelbrock Rpm

Say, been checking out E-bay for a LD 340 intake manifold. There on there, seems like 2-3 every week but are selling for $150 or more and then theres that $20 or so shipping costs.

Well for almost that much, I could get a brand new Weiand Stealth intake manifold or Edelbrock Rpm from Summit Racing for $220 plus just $11 shipping and can get other stuff too and pay no more in shipping costs.

Both intakes are the same price  :dunno: never seen that before. Guess they are keeping things even-sure 1 cost them a bit more but ??

They look so diff. The Weiand looks more like the old LD 340 but the runners are switched around--not sure if it matters. Weiand claims idle to 6800 Rpms and Edelbrock saids 1500 to 6500 rpms.

I have a comp 268 HE cam and 3.91 gears on my 318 with 360 MP heads with the 2.02 valves...the 4772576 castings. Using a Holley Street Dominator intake now and motor runs just great but I am stuck at 10 mpg. Would like the motor to run the same but like a bit more Mpg..without changing anything else.

Which one should I get ? I guess I am going to try 1 and if I don't care for it, E-bay it in the summer...at least I get half my $$$ back if not a bit more..

man I wish I got 10mpg!!! summit has free shipping by the way! they just charge you a "handling" fee  :roflsmiley:

Stick with the intake you got I say....just keep your foot off the gas pedal  :2cents:

If you are looking to get better mpg, I would leave the intake alone and install some highway gears like 3.23 or 2.94.  Your current dual plane intake would get about the same mpg as the other dual planes available.  Also the 2.02 valves might be a little big for your setup.  If you went with some 1.88 vlaves, I bet your mpg would improve a little also.

My intake is a single plane right now. Holley hasn't made this intake for like 20 years. Its a non egr one too.

As for the intake size, well it came with the head, kind of hard to put a smaller valve in. Funny with my old 318 heads, mileage was the same but these heads boosted power everywhere it feels like. Hear the storys about killing the low speed power with them.

Heads are  very nice, cc size is only 63, that was after .030 milled
Has no air port holes either, but are the newer swirl port castings with big pushrod holes.

I know my set up is not for mileage...just if it had 12 that be a nice gain.

I have a Weiand #8007 spread bore with a T-Q, they also make a square bore #8022, just like the LD340. Keep in mind that they don't have provision's for the original choke. I used a electric choke T-Q. You maybe able to used a Rochester 2bbl choke..
I get about 14 mpg with a Comp 309 cam and a 3.55 gear Auto in my Cuda 340.

the 8022 is the Stealth...I thought the 8007 was the older model.

Sure that T-Q helps but they are hard to find in good shape and harder to tune with limited parts. Might get a eddy 650 avs instead.

Maybe I should just try the 650 first, be easier to change. That holley is for low speed too, holley did not even start making intakes till around 1975 and they were all single planes at first. They still make the 440 one but with egr...which is no biggie, just don't use it.

Sorry for the confusion on the intake.  If you switched to a dual plane you may see a better mpg and may have a better throttle response at low rpm.
Your heads sound like a good combination with chamber size.  :2thumbs:
My guess would be to change the rear gear and you should see a better mpg.  I know when I went from the stock 2.76 to a 3.23 my mpg dropped a little.

I have 3.23 gears but need my trans guy to install them, I am not messing around with them.

I hope I need not to do that, if you had 3.91's you might understand. 2 nd gear pulls really good from like 35-40 to 75-80 mph...with the 3.23's it pull good from 55 to 100 mph, thats too high of an speed around were I live. If somebody is going 55 mph in a 45 zone I am not passing them, unlike somebody going 40 in a 45 mph zone.

Dam 2 lane roads..

Latest Hot Rod has article on Mopar intakes for a 383.
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"
