what to do???
« on: November 25, 2007 - 05:17:48 PM »
A few days ago decided to remove the rear seat of my Cuda to see if I was lucky enough to find the broadcast sheet. Needless to say curiousity got the best of me and wanted to see what kind of condition the floors were in since I had bought the car several months back and had only checked it from the bottom side which appeared to be solid. The good new is that the passenger front and both rear pans are original and in excellent shape with only minor surface rust. The drivers floor board is another thing. Not that it was horrible but I cleaned out alot of "scale" that had been there for some time and although weak I only found two small pencil size holes in it. Now if I was planning to restore it soon it would be a no brainer to replace the drivers floor but I intend to drive it for at least a few more years before performing any extensive work I was thinking about stripping it down to bare metal and giving it a good rust treatment and filling in the small holes. What do you guys think???

I'd just drive it, it really wont get bad enough in the few years that it will inhibit driving I dont think.  If stripping it and putting primer on makes you feel better about it, go for it.   :2thumbs:

:iagree: I would do the rust treatment, but it should be no problem for several years.  I drove mine around for at least that long with a good two inch hole.  Just avoid puddles so you don't get your shoes wet.

Get a POR-15 floor and trunk kit. Its easy to do, will make the floor solid, strong and waterproof, and will last until you decide to cut everything out.

I agree with the POR-15 suggestion.  That's some good stuff.  We used it on our Cutlass and in the trunk of my Cuda.

Floor pans are pretty cheap now too if you don't like the above opinions. You can cut out the floor and tack in a new one. This would not be major surgery.

Clean up the rust, use some rust inhibitor and enjoy your ride
