my moms old ride, a '69 Dart......
« on: November 25, 2007 - 10:32:06 AM »
Ok, finally......

my family owned many mopars through history, so ive been around quite a few and developed my favorites. around '93 my parents reluctantly sold their '69 Dart, my mothers favorite mopar, and all was thought to be lost. this car was originally a red slant 6 automatic, no frills. it had a 360 for a while and exchanged hands through a number of people including my uncle and some others friends of family before she owned it. ths car was even known to do a few yard jobs along side of my currently owned '71 Challenger.... Baltimore has a small world of Mopar heads..

So, fast forward to 2006, a friend of mine picked up a badly butchered '69 Dart for parts and thought i may want to see it. low and behold, what smaked me in the face was the same Harley stickers and  peace signs that my mother had applied in the 80's!! further confirmation was the red under coats, 71 dash with the same 69 serial....

So, normally i wouldnt touch such a hacked car, but this one is sentimental.... not too mention my mom's favorite car.. as you can see, someone had bad plans to make a race car and even had some cave drawings of the plan here. follow along as we rebuild this "franken-car"

She will be BLACK! with a reflective orange tail stripe, A100 seats with the aluminum tracks (not sure if i will do orange gut or white or black) its too early.. i will also dig up some original photos of it if i can

I just wonder what your mom will say when she sees you drive up it the car.  Looks like a lot of work but the look on her face will be worth all the effort.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

Wow Moms old car. I can relate. I'm re doing her car right now.
One thing to your advantage is at least the prices of parts won't be as high as like with E bodies.

Holy Cow!  that looks like quite an undertaking - but worth it for sentimental reasons.  I hope you are either a good welder or a millionaire!!  I love those little cars, and am happy to see that one being redone instead of cut up.

yeah, this one wouldnt be worth it if it were not for the sentimental part.. and this one will be teaching me plenty of weldong, my uncle is the metal working genius, i usually back it up with my body work skills. but this one im hoping to do both. and yep, i cant wait to see the look on her face!
