I bought a hydraulic roller cam from these guys and liked their selection.  The link didn't work so I don't know what they are flogging here but if the hole is supposed to help reduce cam wear I would be skeptical.  Would the oil pressure be high enough to get out between the lifter face and lobe?  I doubt it but Hughes does do testing so perhaps they know better.

Linky no worky....   :clueless:

It looks like a spot that might initiate/accelerate wear to me.  But I guess Hughes knows the product better than me....lol     I would not want to be one of the first buyers and have them cause a problem in my new engine.  I would recommend waiting until they have been on the market a while and see how they stand the test of time.....    :bigshades:

Solid Lifter. Can Be Used As Oil Or No Oil Thru Type W/ .012" Edm

These special mechanical, flat-tappet lifters have an oil hole in the bottom of the lifter for a constant flow of cool, pressurized oil to the cam and lifter contact point. The positive supply of pressurized oil to the most highly-stressed area of the engine further insures longer cam/lifter life, even with higher valve spring pressures. This new design, when used in conjunction with their Extreme Pressure Oil Additive, brings superior lubrication to the lower camshaft/lifter interface area. These lifters work in all big block and small block engine applications, including magnums. The lifters also oil up through the pushrod, if required.
These are very popular with the oval track guys or anyone who demands the ultimate in lifter technology.

It sounds like a reasonable idea, but I don't think I want to be an early adopter.  With the changing formulations of engine oil, I guess they might be worth a try.

Nissan has been using EDM holes in rockers for years for the same thing. I think they shoudl work. But, if you better have a good oil system and clearances because you're adding .028" in area of oil pressure loss for each lifter with a .012" hole there. And it pulls it from the lifter galley, before it goes to the mains. I would be interested in hearing from some guys who put them in engines with some milage and a good oil pressure gage. It will help a great deal, but that interaction is not designed to have more oil than splash. So he's dumping a lot more oil there. That also creates windage. I think this is more of a different mousetrap, rather than a real fix. The fix is the right oil/additives, and a good start up period.

Not to hijack the thread...

Has anyone considered doing this to mopar shaft rockers?  In "valve covers off" work, my 440 wants to have the oil run down the edge of the rocker, and over the spring, so I often wonder how these areas get any oil at all, other then a little splash.

the valve tip ios usually Ok & you need oil on the spring to keep it cool
