Ads by Google in the footer?

Not having a clue as to how much this costs to keep running each month or year, is there some way to set up a kitty so people could send some $$$ to keep the site going?

Well my homepage is the unread post page. that loads anytime I get online. After reading what I want I usually scoot on over to ebay and see what's going on there. Looks like one of these footer ads is always going to be ebay, I guess I can just click through that way and give the site some credit. How do the click ads work? Clicks per day, unique clicks per day, etc? if i clicked the ebay link every day for 10 days is that just as good as 10 different people clicking once or me clicking 10 times in one day?

I believe Google charges the end recipiant that you click on, for instance Ebay, and then passes a portion of the charge to Ross because it originated from this site even though it went through Google. Due to that I am pretty sure it is the number of clicks or hits to the site.  They probably don't count the times from each ISP#. This would limit Google's income and use more resources to accomplish.
