rear window defogger option(s)
« on: December 15, 2007 - 09:51:03 AM »
i have read that this option required a space saver spare, can anyone confirm?? i also had previously asked about that speaker box adapter (metal) and someone was saying that this was used on speaker cars. sis all of our cars come with one rear speaker, 2? and were the rear speaker fader cars (like mine) built with 1 or 2 rear speakers when they were optioned with a defrost??

the original thread was deleted during all the hubub back when..  :crazy:

Pretty sure I had a full size spare on my original 74 with rear defrost, but not sure if I had one speaker or 2, that would probably drop the motor down a bit. sorry for the half answer, but it was 30 years ago! Rich.

if you had the rear speakers there would be 2 with the spacer to move the speaker down with the defrost

  My cuda has a rear window defrost. Came with 2 speakers and has a space saver tire. Don't know if the space saver tire was required with this option or not?  Were the space saver tires a special option or were they included in the cuda versions?

My 71 Cuda has rear defrost, AM/FM with speaker fader and two rear speakers. Broadcast sheet shows space saver.  However, it also was ordered with 15" wheels so that may be why the space saver (which btw is a big pain in the butt to find!)

certainly not a cheap part.... my car came with 14"s but i was wondering if the defrost option upgraded the spare.

I have the dealer option and accessory list at home.  I'm pretty sure that if you have rear speakers and rear defrost you had to have the space saver.  If just rear defrost - I don't know.  If you don't have a positive answer by this evening I'll look it up for you.  :thumbsup:

dont know if this is any help, but mine is a 73 with rear speaker (1) and the defroster, it had the full size spare (still got it) defroster (lost now) was taken out years ago to make room for the second speaker.

any confirmation would be great, but im in no hurry. so, whenever you get time is great. i just thought id like to know if im in for another expensive buying season to fulfill my little sneaky cars expensive taste. it really likes to shock me each year when i realize it came with yet another rare expensive accessory.

Get out the checkbook!  :money:

The "1971 BARRACUDA-GRAN COUPE-CUDA CODE LIST"  states:

"W34...Collapsible Spare Tire...Std. Conv. - Required with 15" Tires and with R32 & H31 combination."

R32=Dual Rear Seat Speakers (With R26, R35 or R36 Only - N/A Conv)
H31=Rear Window Defogger (N/A Convertible)
R26=Radio AM w/Stereo Tape
R35=Radio AM/FM Stereo
R36=Radio AM/FM Stereo w/Stereo Tape
Also, an (R11) AM Radio could have been ordered with (R31) single rear seat speaker.

Hope this helps!   :2thumbs:
