Wrong shifter location???

Have you guys ever seen the shifter location so far forward on a 70 cuda.  It was on a original 3 speed converted to 4 speed.  It looked like the shifter hole was where I marked it in the pic and the shifter was longer than a normal e body shifter.  Any one have an idea what or why they did that?

they may have used an early B body tranny with only the forward shifter mount & used the 71 up bench seat shifter

Yes, Chryco is right.  In my first Challenger, The idiot that converted the auto to a manual, had put a b-body trans and b-body shifter mount in it.  The handle was welded on with a rearward slant to clear the dash board.   It still worked very well and I blew off many doors with this combo.    ( the 440 and 4:56 posi had alot to do with it too).

I just have to comment - Look at those pictures.  Nothing better than looking at the Shaker!  Very Cool.  Nice Car.
