McLeod dual-disk clutch
« on: December 21, 2007 - 09:52:52 PM »
I read an article in Muscle Car Enthusiast a new dual-disk clutch assembly from McLeod. Sounds like an ideal setup.  You can use your existing flywheel, it supposedly can handle up to 800hp, and it reduces pedal pressure from stock due to the dual disks.   Has anyone see this or has any experience with it?  I need a new clutch and I'm considering this over B&B.

Any opinions?

I just built a 512 CI 440 & used the dual disc clutch set up , it is over $1000 & comes with flywheel , pressure plate & 2 discs , it is a nice system but uses a diaphragm PP

Awesome car!  A bit more than my little 383....

I found the McLeod RST 2 disc (organic) kits at Jegs for about $673, but they don't come with a flywheel, since you can use your own.  They also use the diaphram style PP.  The also have the metallics disc for the same price (up to 1200hp).

Is a diaphram PP a poor design?  I only know what I've read (no experience).  Any disadvantages?

I am not a fan of the diaphragm style clutches but everyone seems to be changing to them
I prefer the B&B or B&B Long style

I used the 3100LB Race Pressure PLate from MP. It is in their catalog. The clutch plate is a kevlar model mounted on a 130 tooth flywheel SFI certified from 440 Source. CP got the clutch plate for me so I don't know the brand. Clutch plate / pressure plate/ TO Bearing was $450 CDN. Go for the old original 3 finger job.

Thanks, guys.

Got me thinking now...  At least I have a few months to decide.  (Upstate NY.)

Merry Christmas!
