340 block
« on: January 03, 2008 - 08:02:31 PM »
I am interested in putting a 340 in my challenger, and i just found a 1971 340 block for $300. It is missing its main caps. I don't know much about engines, so i am not sure if this matters?

You would have to get more caps for it and then align bore it at a machine shop

I'll have to look and see if I still have a complete set of 340 main caps. The only thing you need to do is have the block line bored by a machine shop....
Give me a couple days to look for them....

I am a ways off from doing anything with my drivetrain, however if these 340's are so hard to come by, should i buy the block and store it untill i am ready?

No biggie. Motor is so old getting it line bore is a good idea.

I take it if the cylinders are not too far over bore.

I have a block that ended up having issues. The caps are available if yo need them too. I'm sure the current owner of this scrap would love to sell them...lol.

I also have a '70 std bore block partially machined for sale(no, not the block witht he issue...)...
$300 with no caps is fairly high BTW.
