Individual air cleaners on a six pack 340
« on: January 02, 2008 - 04:41:22 PM »
How would I go about this?
Seen a couple pictures on the net.
Anyone done it on here that can give me the parts they used.
My original air cleaner assembly is rusted to hell.

Would like 3 small chrome air cleaners when I'm done.

Small air cleaners restrict air flow to the engine, and reduce power.

are you wanting it to look like the tri-power set up?  You can probably buy them from Jeggs or summit to fit the holleys

I was looking on summit for awhile and I couldn't find anything.
Thats cool that you found that.
That looks sweet!

Are those for 2 barrel carbs, i'm guessing because it is in a set of three.
Just making sure.

Thanks for all of your help guys! :swaying:

The link above is for four barrels with a 5" throat.

The GM tri powers used Rochester 2G and 2GC carbs with a round air cleaner mount, the Mopar Six Packs and Corvette 427 tri powers used Holley 2 barrels with a "D" shaped air cleaner mount.

I know you can get little air cleaners all day long for the 2 GC, but the Mopar/Corvette tripowers may be a little more difficult.

I have a 1959 Edelbrock 3x2 set up for a 383, predates the factory tri power setups by a decade.  It uses GM Rochester 2GC carbs, and the air cleaners are cheap, but won't fit the musclecar Mopar carbs.

Look at the carbs.  Totally different than the Holley 2 barrels.

The Summit one says it's available in several sizes and styles. I guess you would just have to call and see if they have them to fit your carbs.

Alright it looks like it isn't going to happen. I found another cool looking air cleaner on jegs.
Its the edelbrock elite.

Under the oval air cleaners, last one.

What do you guys think.
I would just keep the stock one but it is rusted away.

That looks nice too. Promax has another possibility. http://promaxcarbs.bizland.com/Sixhome.chtml

I like the edelbrock one better because it is $172.99
The promax one is $399.

I'll probably be ordering this if 3 air cleaners is hard to do.

Thanks again. :)

I have a 1972 Cuda 340, and just scored a complete NOS 6/pak system hidden away in Detroit for many years. It's never been on a car, a still in the Mopar boxes. It looks like it's a little taller than what I hav enow. Can anyone tell me if it will fit under the hood. I believe it will, but it's going to be close. It's painted orange, but to keep my 72 close to coorect, my block is blue. I'm thinking of taking it back to natural alum. Anyone who has made the change, lease let me know.

I would think you could sell it for mega bucks, and buy a complete car. People that sell at Barrett-Jackson want that stuff!
