Dutchman panel seams
« on: December 30, 2012 - 11:51:12 AM »
How were these seams finished from the factory?  Were theses seams finished the same for hardtops and convertibles?  I have a 70 Barracuda convertible, the dutchman panel is original, but the quarter panels have been replaced.  There is evidence of lead in these seams.  Were the seams leaded/finished flush with the surrounding metal to completely hide them?  Any photos would be great!

On my 74 coupe, the upr. trunk panel seams to the 1/4's were spot welded together and had a seam sealer in them. No solder  :2cents:

You are talking about this panel right?

Mine was welded in with no signs of lead when I replaced it.  The factory look has the seams to the trunk like shown.

My 72 has the seams as well. No indication of lead there.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

On a vert the seam is not visible.  Not sure how the factory did it (I assume lead given the chunk I found in the trunk hinge area).  Hardtops the seam is exposed like in the prior picture.

What did you end up with as to a "Final Solution" ? I will have to solve the same thing on my '71 B-cuda 'vert. I know there was lead. What I don't know is how much. Were the seams invisible when done or just a little shallower than on a hardtop ?  Should have taken more photos but didn't know the car would be apart for a hundred years when I started.
