Spring rates: AAR vs. Hemi leaf springs
« on: January 23, 2008 - 09:34:15 PM »
I have brand new AAR, T/A reproduction rear leaf springs, brand new.
I bought em before when I was thinking I would stay with a small block.

Now that I'm going Big block, will the back end sit really high vs. Hemi leafs?
Should I sell these and get a different set that is for a Dana that I plan to buy later?

What are the spring rate differences and traction like in comparison of each other?
Mike, Fremont, CA.

the AAR spring s will sit higher & should be slightly softer spring rate , but you have them so why not install them with the 1" lower fornt mount & see fi you like the ride & stance if not it is easy to swap the leafs later

Ditto what CP said.

Stock rate on either set is going to be around 130#. The hemi springs just have an extra half leaf to stiffen up the front segment is all. You could alway s add a pinion snubber too if you have some traction issues.

:clapping: Actually, If you where smart.  You could always take the springs to a company that builds springs and have them reset yours and add the extra half leaf, you would be surprised how cheap of an excercise this would be. :2thumbs: :working:

Would you know who carries them?

I had a feeling they were pretty close to each other on the rate but knew there had to be some kind of difference.

Thank everyone for your input.
