Interior light Bulbs?
« on: December 20, 2007 - 10:40:54 PM »
What size bulbs do I need for the instrument panel and overhead console? Does anyone know of any LED bulbs that fit these locations?

On my '73 there are a couple of different light bulbs for the dash. The light bar has an oblong light bulb, mine were marked only as C9S 1893. The remainder, inside the dash, is small round bulbs, marked GE 57 KM. Of course the replacements for those (that I picked up at a local O'Reilly's) are marked as 757 China(go figure) 4L. I don't have an overhead console, so I can't help you there.
On the new ones, I took the old to the store with me, matched up the bases and shapes to pick the replacements.

Sounds good. Can you get the oblong ones at a local parts store. Those are the ones I really need.

NAPA has a very good selection....enter your model & search bulb.
maybe this link will work http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=430&Keyword=bulb&KeywordCat=Instrument+Light+Bulb&VehCode=Y

Did a search for 1893 bulb replacements & ran across an LED ..If you order 1=$10.25ea  12=$5.95ea...you need buddy to share order with!

Raptor
I got all of my bulbs from the O'Reilly's chain store in a suburb of St Louis. I would assume that all O'Reilly's either have them or can get them. Would also think that the other chains could, too. Nothing exotic about this bulb....

I spoke with www.hitechledproducts.com who I got my cuda tail light conversion led lights which work great! But they tried their LED light bulbs which are supposedly brighter than the ones you guys discussed. Thet tried them on a rally dash and they weren't happy. They said you need to add about 10 total bulbs, but extra work is required :-\

Has anybody tried the LEDs yet and were happy? If so tell us which ones?
Also you have to angle the bulb towards the gauges for more light.

Also - talk to the people at Redline Guages in California. They know alkl about the LED route ......... and he did not mention anything to me regarding having to add extra LED lamps to make up for any light loss.

They just built my gauges and they get thier LED products/info from Hitech and they referred me back to them.
I hope someone finds a solution b/c just changing the bulbs, unless some new super bright one comes out, doesn't give you enough light.
