318 to 440 rad question

I've got a 73 318 car that I'm dropping a 440 into. The old rad is 18 inches and I know I need to upgrade to a 26 inch rad. My question is about the rad supports. I've seen that to fit in the 26inch rad you need the r/h 26 inch rad support. One one site in my travels(of course I can't find it again) It said you only needed the r\h if going from 22 to 26 inch rad. If going from 18 to 26 you will need two of these r/H supports using one for the left side. Anyone else heard this or have any suggestions?

the 18" rad uses a filler palte to get to the 22" opening so you should have the 22" opening in the rad wall now , so that would only require the right side panel to open up to 26" , a lot of the R/Ts came with 22 rads not 26 so using s tripe core high efficiency 22 " should be enough anyway

So a 22 inch rad would just drop right in without needing to modify the rad mounts. That sounds great. Maybe I'm getting confused but I thought you needed the 26 rad for the 440 or was that only the hemi?

I know AC dictated 26" , also any HD cooling system , I have seen most 340 with 26" while some 440 R/Ts had 22" , not sure why , Hemi should be 26" as well

So I could go with either a 22 inch 4 core rad or add the r/h rad support and install a 26 inch rad. Anybody do the r/h rad support install? Do you remove the existing r/h support to add the new one? Just trying to figure out options. I already have a 26 inch rad so that may be the simplest fix.

I wish I could offer you advice, but I would feel safer with a 26" rad on a 440.

I know there is a difference in the in / out from S.b. to B.b.
Can you have both the 22" and the 26" rad, for both B.b and S.b.
