Another electrical question dash lights
« on: January 26, 2008 - 01:25:40 AM »
When I turn on the headlights the right and left blinker dash lights turn on as well. Any ideas. I think it might be a grounding issue.

One of the left parking lamp filaments could be broken & shorted to the turn signal filament...
I have seen this before.

My car had done the same thing. It sat for 32 yrs. I ended up cleaning every ground, taking sand paper to every connection and replacing every bulb and flasher. It works good as new now. Everything went from on to very bright. I also had to make sure the switch pod had the ground screw in it attaching it to the dash.

I had that problem when I first bought my car. I think it's trying to tell you a turnsignal bulb is out, but it's not always that simple. In my case, it was a bad ground. I found out the problem was in one of my front parking light housings. 2 of the 3 screw holes were stripped, and it was pretty much dangling by the third. I put in another assembly, and I haven't had the problem since.

I will try adding more grounds and checking existing grounds tomorrow. That is kind of what I figured but thought I would see what others thought. My 71 did the same thing, but I never was able to fix that on that car.

Update. I think I have it figured out but I have to go to the parts store. It looks like its the flasher. I'll let you know when I change it if that fixes the problem.
