StRoKeR,

You know that you are going to take that thing down the track more than once or twice in it's life.  A track's starting line is so sticky that it is unlike ANY street surface that I have ever seen. If you're used to your tires spinning when you jump on it, that will not happen  on a well prepared track surface.   We are just trying to save you a little money without having to do it twice.

If you can find a Dana posi rear end in a junk yard truck, you can cut off the ends and weld 8-3/4 ends on it. Then you just have to buy the axles. I think rear ends at our Pick&Pull are $75.  Danas are everywhere there. If you get an open one you just add a sure-grip.

Make sure that it has a 60 on the diagonal brace to identify a true dana 60.

Stroker - I did the truck Dana route for $85 for the entire diff out of a 6 banger Ford suregrip TracLoc 3.73, $120 for the machining/welding/$28 for the spring perchs and $400odd for the 31 spline Moser axles. They fit perfect and all I gave them was the one measurement from flange to flange. They have done these axles many many times so they know what to do as there were zero problems. Stock Challenger axles went in but one was a tad too short and the other was way too long because of the offset of the Dana. Used green bearing setup. It is in the car and looks just like the real McCoy.

I spent a ton on the 8 3/4s in my Duster & Cuda , both failed with slicks , the Cuda tore 37 teeth off the ring gear on the first mild launch , never again , I had a 35 spline spool & axles  from Mark Williams , the housing was braced , new gears & made approx 52" in the Cuda on the first pass  :faint:

Time bomb.

Slicks don't make that much difference when you test your rear end with that much horsepower. And now you want to add N20?

Tick, tick, tick......

As much as you race on the street, we should start a lottery to see who can guess the date of "you know what"

And when your rear end breaks, you WILL take out the rear sparg in the tranny. And if you don't fix that and just fix the rear end, you CAN and probably WILL blow your transmission case up. It will cost fewer dollars if you fix it before it breaks.   Ask Tactransman.

Tick, tick tick.....

I do this a lot , get a truck diff with the gear ratio & sure grip that you want & rework the housing & order new axles , it works out around $1000

Stroker,    If you are sooooo set on sticking with an 8-3/4, then why did you ask about it's strengths?

You might as well keep yours.     Good luck.

It's not that im set on the 8 3/4 for sure but always like to get more than one opinion..... but I may buy the 60 also....... and have the 8 3/4 braced also...
