Interior lights color?
« on: January 08, 2008 - 06:49:08 PM »
Yesterday was the first time driving my car in the dark.  A friend blew out the clutch on his RX8 and asked for some help getting home from the shop.  On the drive home in the dark I noticed a soft eerie blue glow from the dash.  I fiddled with the dimmer switch and found that I had dash lights.  I managed to get them bright enough to see the gauges... barely.  Are they supposed to be blue?  Any way to get them brighter?  Obviously, the switch is a little faulty, but even if I replace it how bright can I expect the lights to be?

They should be greenish in color. Being slightly dim is common.  :eek4: You are normal.

My dimmer switch went to heaven, so I replaced it with a toggle switch. It looks SO much brighter now.  :grinyes: Why would you want to dim something that is already dim?

Someone else mentioned that too. He had a 73. Maybe they changed it in the later years?  :dunno:

My rally dash is green but some are blue, the one I saw was a '74 w/ standard dash... When working correctly I think the brightness is adequate but the condition of your panel dimmer may be the real issue, as far as replacing that good luck as they are scarce & very pricey.  Try cleaning the contacts of the dimmer you have.

My '73 Cuda has blue light filters and they look original. Can't say they are absolutely original, but the filters look like they've been there forever. And they are dim...................

I was just thinking about the color Blue.  Green and Yellow make Blue.  Green lights plus lots of cigarette smoke (Yellow) makes Blue!   Clean them nicotine covered light bulbs and I bet they'll shine Green again!  :roflsmiley:

They might be dim because of corrosion in the connectors going to the dash lamps. Try tracing the wires to the lamps and clean any connections.

If the headlights are dim, too, it's possible your alternator or regulator isn't working right and there isn't enough voltage in your system. I'd put a test voltmeter on and see what's up.

Actually blue and yellow make green, maybe his are clean! ;D

Seriously, I have seen both blue and green filters on the dash lights, but many more green than blue.

is there a way to bypass the dimmer without an additional toggle switch? I would just like them to come on nice and bright when I switch my park lights on
