Where to buy Seat Cushions?
« on: January 24, 2008 - 10:43:49 AM »
Can anyone tell me who sells new seat cushions?

The old cushions are in decent shape, but as mentioned in other threads, there is a strong "Mopar smell" in the car.  I think the smell may be coming from the cushions.... :dunno:

As far as I know, the seat cushions are only available for 70-71 front bucket seats. I know Legendary Interiors sells those.

Thanks for responding MEK.  Can you tell us what MEK means?

Just called Leg. and sales guys says the sell no cushions for the cloth seats that I have.

I told him of the smell and he said Febreeze (sp?) worked on his GTX.

I see...... i assume you are looking for just the base? or the whole kit? thats a rare one. i bought cushions for my leather seats and it was an SOB!! they are definitely not the exact thing but it does work. although now i hit my head on the headliner so hopefully it settles.....

The MEK are the initials to my full name. Aren't I clever?  :grinno:

The Febreeze stuff smells nice, but I'm not sure if that is a solution or not. It might only work temporarily. Have you looked in the phone book for any local trim shops? They might be able to cut something up to fit your seats.

i read in a magazine that a guy soaked his cushions in the bathtub for a while...... you could try that with some sort of soap or something.....

Thanks for the reply's MEK and Wally.  Will need to try something like that.

The good thing is since there are no cushions available, then I can spend the money on something else. :money:

We had a '97 Caravan which gained a mold infestation in the HVAC, I didn't have time to tear it down so I sent it to my neighbors shop. They tore the entire interior down from the front of the firewall to the back of the front seats. I don’t remember the product but I remember looking at it, there are specific odor cleaners for vehicles and they used it on the van. It was much better but it was never right. Whenever the humidity was up the smell returned although at a much lesser intensity.

I think they used something along these lines:

I wouldn’t use febreze I’ve found it works OK for odors that would likely go away in time anyway.

I would try something along these lines:

http://www.meguiars.com/?car-odor-elimination/Car-Odor-Eliminator

http://www.turtlewax.com/main.taf?p=2,4,4,1

Here’s a good summary:

http://www.automotiveforums.com/t394158-how_to_get_bad_smell_out_of_car_.html

Some other cleaners:

http://www.lanescarproducts.com/trodel.html

http://www.duragloss.com/product.asp?pid=305

be aware its most likely that your carpet and headliner are contributing to the smell.

I understand some of the detail shops have industrial ionization cleaners, there are some concerns that this attacks the plastics in the car, if you can find a shop that has one maybe just pull the seats out remove the hard plastic pieces and have them treated.
