Anything I need to know when putting in a new tank?

Me and my dad are about to put a new gas tank in my 1968 Barracuda. Are we going to run into any problems?
Always do, but would like to plan ahead.

Already got the tank just have to install it.

No gas fumes near an open flame. I had a neighbor drain his gas tank in the garage, and the water heater 20 ft away ingnited the fumes. He burned to death under his car, plus his house was toast.
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

use some kind of pad between the tank & body that will not collect moisture

Thats crazy, somethign like that could have happened to me but I guess luck was on my side. I had a field car I used to drive around our acreage before I got my licence, the car was too rusted to drive anymore, so before the junk yard came to tow it away, I drilled a hole in the gas tank with an electric drill to drain the tank....Dad couldn't believe I didn't blow up.   :22yikes:

 Don't know about a 68 Barracuda, but getting the sender to seal was a problem on my Challenger. If I did another I would assume it will leak and be prepared to deal with it when it happens. And that won't be at the filling station for sure.

Finally got the tank out. The grommet was stuck and the filler tube would not turn. So me and my dad just cut the grommet away. Now we have to get a new one, but atleast the tank finally came off.

The filler tube is rusted on the part that goes into the tank, so I will probably need a new one. I need the seal assembly (part that goes on the floorboard). I also need the j-bolts that hold the gas tank in place.

Today was pretty unsuccessful, lots of things broke and their is rust on the filler tube, but I got the tank out.

Thank god there was a hole in the tank, because when I got the tank out and turned it over it sounded like there was a dead animal in there  :o

There was a ton of rust on the tank and dirt and crap. If I would have tried to start the car with that stuff in the tank I would have been screwed. Thankfully I have new tank.  ;D

****Where do you guys go to get your restoration parts?****
