Anyone familiar with Tivo?
« on: January 28, 2008 - 05:25:10 PM »
I know this is WAY off topic for this section,
but I'm really out of patience, and hope someone here can give me some info  :1zhelp:
I bought Tivo as a gift for my mother for Christmas.
If I knew it was going to be this much of a pain in the @ss, I would have gotten her a sweater  :pullinghair:

OK, here's my "issue"........
I am trying to get a Multi stream cable card from my cable company, (Charter Communications).
I went to the local branch twice, (in Grafton, Ma) and neither time had anyone there had a clue  :clueless:
I just talked to the main branch through their 800 number, and now I am told that I have to set up an appointment so they can come and install the card  :swear:
I'll be dammed if I'm gonna pay some just out of high school dim wit "technician" to come push a card in a slot, and program it for me, I've had a few of these "techs" at the house before, so I ripping them based on MY experience with them.

I guess it is up to the individual branches of the cable company to decide whether they will just give you the cards, or send a tech out.
Has anyone been able to just go to their local branch, and pick up a card?
I have heard some cable companies still do this.

I will leave it at this for now, just to see if anyone is familiar with this before I may proceed with a few other quick questions.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
 Thanks

I couldn't have got this far without all your help  :'(
Looks like I'm the only stupid @ss who went out, and bought Tivo.  :bricks1:
Well, off to the Tivo forums I guess, to be surround by other fools  :walkaway:
I'll let you all know how it turns out
Especially those who are not interested

The Feds require that the cable companies supply you with a cable card, but they don't stipulate that they have to make it easy to get one and the cable companies don't want you to have one.  Why not just get satellite and a Tivo/DVR box?

Hey Mike,
 Thanks for the reply  :woo:
Yea, nobody really said how much of a pain in the @ss that friggin cards would be to get.
Tivo said, it was as easy as calling your local cable company  :swear:
As for gettting satellite, and a DVR?
I already have a Charter Cable box in place, and the Tivo is already opened.
Trust me, if I could bring that d@mn thing back I would.
Thanks again for the info Mike.
Appreciate it
