K-Frame reinforcements?
« on: February 06, 2008 - 11:35:25 AM »
Ok, while I have my Steering Box and engine out, where should I reinforce the K-frame?  I have read that it flexes by the steering box?  I can't seem to visualize where it should be reinforced. Anyone have an idea or have any of you done it?

Thanks Tom :1zhelp:

I have installed diagonal bracing in side the box in front of the steering box mount DO NOT  go too far forward as the big block oil pump sits in there , I have also tied the mount for the steering box onto the frame better , often the factory welds were not great as well so I go over them where necessary, adding support around the Idler arm on the other side can help as well

Thanks Chryco, You don't have a pic anywhere do you?  I got a small block but will try and keep the bracing inside the open boxes.  I think i'll take a good look at the factory welds in there too.

Welding up the factory seams helps loads.

The Firm Feel link has a nice picture of the gusset you can add.
