Did 70 Challenger 383 come with a "heat stove"?
« on: February 06, 2008 - 10:37:45 AM »
When I got my 70 Challenger, it did not have a heat stove on it. Does anyone know what provisions for carb heating the 383 came with? There was, however, a funky looking cast fitting thingy held to the driver's exhaust manifold by a screw-type hose clamp. Was this factory original? It seems kind of mickey-mouse for a production setup, although I don't know how else you would attach it. I have seen repro heat stove sheet metal. Anyone know offhand who carries it? I'd appreciate being enlightened on this- I am trying to return to the original stock details.

You are talking about a heat riser. My big-block has headers, so I can't help you with a picture. sorry.

I think Tony's parts  repops the heat stove, it's a two piece deal that bolts to the hi-po manifold with 2 short studs and 2 nuts. I'll post a couple pics of my '70 383 with and without it, hope they help! :2thumbs:

Boy the wrinkle on that air cleaner looks fantastic!!
The emission decal should be over by the breather nipple though.

I know, but I am kind of wary of taking that one off.
