8-3/4 center section workstand/jig options
« on: January 28, 2008 - 01:28:35 AM »
While I'm pretty sure this shouldn't be hard to find, my google-fu has been weak; just can't come up with the right collection of search terms.  I know I've seen what I'm looking for in one of the Mopar mags at some point.

I'm looking for a holder or jig to mount the center section on while working on it.  Perhaps something that can be clamped to a work bench or in a suitably strong vise.

I could jury-rig something up out of angle-iron (I don't have a welder so it'd be bent and bolted) but if there's something out there thats not too expensive it would probably also be better.

An engine stand doesn't cut it...

Thanks.

Outlaw,
thanks, looking forward to seeing the picture.

I'm certain I saw something in one of the mopar magazines at some point but so far haven't found it.

Just out of curiosity, is there an etiquette for topic bumps here?  Don't bump more often than'#' days?

Bumpity-bump

Found this option for Ford 9":   http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/2612,97_Assembly-Stand-For-9andquot;-Ford-Differential.html

Its not ideal; the engine stand itself, if not bolted to the floor or otherwise held in place, will move around under the torque you need to apply, but its better than having the center section loose on a benchtop.

It shouldn't be too hard to make one of those (or modify that one to work) for an 8 3/4.

Maybe for someone with a welder and fabrication skills ; )
But I think I see some possibilities for a bolt-together

I wonder if one of the stands for air cooled VW engines might be easily adaptable; it might depend on the spacing and curvature of the arms.  The one in the link bolts to a bench and wuld probably be more stable than the engine stand mount above...

Last bump.  Outlaw, I'd love to see the picture of your jig.
