Transmission Speedo gear?
« on: February 22, 2008 - 11:42:04 PM »
I was curious as to why my speedo never worked, so while i was working on the reverse problem I have, I pulled the speedo pinion gear out. It was chewed up to nothing.

It was a number 36 on the gear.  I am pretty sure even if it worked the speedo would be off. It was for 355 gears and stock size 70 model tires.

So here's what I got And I want to know if im close.

275-60-15 ta radials 23 spline 70 4 spd and 323 gears. I took a tape and went from the floor to the top of the tire and it looked like 27.5 inches. So I bought a 33 tooth gear. Said it was for 28 inch tall and 355's.
The 31 tooth was for 27 and 323's  I am building a 354 dana now, and the 1/2 differenence in height made me think I might be close

Hoping some of you guys have been down this road and can give me a heads up. I didnt think there was a difference in the 120 or 150 speedo in the factor, but mine is the 150

I don`t have a chart handy but 33 or 34 will be right , no difference between 120 or 150 MPH speedos though
