1970 Cuda/barracuda convertible wanted
« on: February 16, 2004 - 05:49:34 PM »
I am looking at tyring to located a 1970 cuda/barracuda convertible with non matching numbers. I am looking for a rust free car that is complete. I don't care about numbers matching, but am looking for a true convertible. I don't mind working on the car as long as it doesn't deal with rust. I know absolutely nothing about rust. I plan on working on this car with my nephew over time and plan on keeping this car in my family for many years to come.
I consistanlty try Hemmings, Autotrader, Ebay and countless sites and have found nothing for what my needs are looking for.  If you are aware of any convertibles that are for sale, please let me know. I have been patiently been looking for the last 3 years and have either been outbid or have been to late in contacting the owner before the car has sold. I have cash and will listen to any reseaonable offers.

thanks for the interest and help,
brian

NZ 44RT  REV-IT-UP,
I appreciate your assistance very much. If you have any other suggestions or sites to check, please feel free to shoot me an email. I have spent hours on the internet and continue to come up empty. I have gone google with "1970 barracuda convertible" as a search tool and have hit hundreds of sites. Unfortunately mostly dealing with 1/64 model cars unfortunately or ads that were placed 2 years ago that are still for sale. Arggggg !!!!!!
I had a barracuda in high school some 15+ years ago and I have been saving my money for the past 3+ years for a rust free convertible. I have tried with local mopar clubs here from the NW and have had zero luck.
Would either of you suggest flying to any huge publicised Mopar shows this Spring/Summer? Are there many cars for sale at these shows? There really isn't much here in Oregon. Several car shows, but the number of cars for sale have been very limited. This is starting to get old to be honest and I sadly may investigate into a used Viper or a Shelby GT500. Just not getting any leads.....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks again,
brian

I here ya mate, try finding a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T in New Zealand! lol!!!  ;D

Try Google again but use the "Advanced Search" option, then go to "Exact Phrase" this nails it right down to only what you put in. Also try putting, "Convertible, Cuda" as well mix it up.

Carlise - The biggest Mopar show in America/World is in July 4, heaps of this board are doing a road train together, if your keen go with the members I'm sure one of them will take you (depending on where you live?) Take a suitcase of money and leave the car at home so you can drive your new car back  :D

I'll go hard on the internet and help you out, I've got a few tricks up the sleeve lol!! Don't worry mate, bide your time and things will come. If good things take time your going to be getting one hell-of-a-car!!  8)

Check this site more as there will probably be more posts to this thread of yours  ;)

Cheers,
Carl

i'm not one for advertising for other boards but try
www.cudaworld.com they have 3-70 converts and 2 71's for sale.  the sad thing is the 71's are very, very nice but very, very expensive,100g+. i too have been looking for one for awhile now. i have my aar but i want a vert. instead. last feb i drove to detroit,mi from danville,va  to buy one that was supossedly a very nice driver that only needed a minor cosmetic resto at best. needless to say it was grossly misrepresented.
to start with the pictures that he sent me where old and alot of parts where now missing off of the car that where on it in the pic's. he blatantly lied about the rust that was in the car and about the running condition also.  30'g + for a car that needed a total resto along with needing a cowl, lower fenders, inner fenders, floor pans, trunk pan, qtrs and missing parts just didnt sit well with me so i left it there.
so be very careful when looking at these cars. pay close attention to the cowl area ,esp to the seam that runs from side to side that ties the top part of the cowl to the firewall its about 4 inch's from the top edge also look around the master cyl. area and look at the hood hinge area.  then look under the fenders back toward the firewall area, people like to undercoat them there because they rust out, check for weak spots or patchs there. open the doors and look at the door hinge pillar, if you see bubbles or rust there watch out its bad,,,
also the trunk area around the convert top frame is another place to look closely at.
another thing is to look for the tourqe box's in front of the rear spring perch, if they are not there then look out, it's probably a hardtop car thats been cloned into a cenvert. also check the door glass to make sure that it goes all the way up and seals against the top and the rear qtr. glass, convertible frt door glass is different than a regular cuda. hopefully this will help you get a better idea areas to look at when you find a convertible that you are interested in.
