Can the body line shift ???
« on: February 12, 2008 - 11:18:34 PM »
My car is currently on a rotisserie and we are sanding it, is it possible for the body line to shift once is has weight on it? My guess is no but I thought I would ask.

So I guess I should spray the underside and then set the car down and finish blocking it??

YES! I lined up my doors (off the rotis) but on jackstands(at the lift points) when I put it back on the wheels the rear of the door dropped almost a 1/2" . Rich.

Wow, 1/2 inch, I can't imagine that. Is the weight distribution that much different?? I sure hope that I don't have the same issue but will put it on the wheels to make sure. My car also has frame connectors so I hope that will stiffen it as well.

i put 20lbs in the doors to act as the glass and stuff to help keep the gaps and lines correct.

My car is currently still on the rotisserie.  I am going to paint the bottom and engine compartment, then get it back on the ground, including the engine and trans, and then do the finish body work.

These cars will flex or bend more than most think.  I remember a lot of the cuda's and challengers I had you could hear them pop every time you turned a corner.  The doors are a big part of the body.  There is not as much support as you think.  Be Careful when using the rotiseries.  Put in braces in the openings for the doors if they are off.   You can even bend them on a swing arm rack.  Make sure the doors are closed when lifting them.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development
