LOL! "Low-Powered" '60s Muscle Car Engines!
« on: February 21, 2008 - 11:30:34 PM »
I just have to post this! On another message board, the subject is the 1960s bias ply tires VS modern radials.
A member there (whom I've mentioned before) claims that there is no big difference regarding traction.

Here is his statement, to quote:
"In most cases, the tires of the era were fully adequate for the low-powered engines and the limited-slip differential to which they were connected in various 'magazine cars.'"
Post #194, near the bottom of the page.

LOL.

Try not to laugh too much... have some pity for him. ;-)

Has anyone here ever compared the 1/4 mile E.T. difference with both tires on the same car?

More laughs than reading a comic book for ten minutes!

And don't forget... those of you who own '60s/early '70s Mopars are driving around in a "low-powered" muscle car!

Weeeelllll. Amusing read. Some balony, some factual. the low power comment was rather amusing.

However, don't completely discount bias plys.

There are still a large number of drag slicks that are bias ply. Also don't forget the FAST cars that are turning in 11 and 10 second e.t.s on reproduction bais plys.

Yeah, no doubt the bias ply drag slicks are much improved over the '60s bias ply drag slicks.
I read somewhere that in some cases, modern radials would grip better than some of those '60s drag slicks!
