318 /340 - Converter / stallspeed..???

Will there be a large difference in stallspeed on a 318 / 904 and a 340 / 727...???

I got a 340, but with the 904 tranny from the original 318 engine,  - I can't smoke tires, need a lot of rpm's on the 340 before it performes, but the stall is so low the car gets going like a ferry..  :bricks1:

The 318 converter is a lower stall than the 340 wants for sure. You need to go aftermarket on the converter, especially if the 340 is "pumped up" more than a stock one.

Do you have a 727? If so,then yes,go with the 727 and a stall.Make sure your 340 is tuned to it's best also because a 340 with a 318 converter should be pretty peppy yet. Is the engine idle real "lopey/rumpity"?

I have been thinking of getting a 727, - for a couple of years, - but has waited, cours my mind is on a bigblock - kind of a bigblock guy..   :burnout:

The 340 is a little jumpy in idlle, but not a lot, - almost stock I think, exept for the headders and doublepumper carb..

I would say that the 340 needs some tuning and then it might run more to your liking with the 904/converter you have. I am assuming that it is a '71 and earlier 340 (Steel crank)
