Does anyone use mudflaps anymore?

Just wondering what people do to keep stone chips, tar, etc, from damaging the areas behind the wheels. Especially you guys with high horsepower and lead feet.

I haven't seen any in the avatars or members pics. Personally, I just drive real slow when I come up on gravel or just try to avoid those roads if possible.

Take some flat plastic ones and trim to desired fit. Then use those heavy duty paper clips and clip them on the edge. It works great. You can take them off after driving and throw them in the trunk when done. Get back the clean body lines like when at a car show.

I still think they are a good idea to save the paint behind the tire.

Since my car is an m46 code car, The whole bottom part of the car is covered with tough organosol paint. This helps a bunch. But I still shy away from going fast on any gravel roads. Fresh painted lines are what scare me on new roads

I have a set on my car but they were put on by the original owner way back when, who knows when.  I think he put them on because he drove in the snow and such to go snowmobiling, pulling the snowmobiles with this car.  You can still see the trailer hitch.  They are the chrome type with rubber on the bottom.



I haven't bought mudflaps in a while but in the 80s I remember buying a set the did NOT require drilling and they had clips that slid onto the inner fender lip.  These clips held a screw that went through the mudflap and then a plastic cap nut was used on the screw.  I think this is along the lines of what Topcat is mentioning.  This was nice as there were no holes needed and can be removable without tools.  Not sure if they make them like this anymore.  :dunno:

Jaeger makes ones that simply slip onto your wheel lip for front and rear.....I have a set for my 1970 Mustang and they are great.......click on 'Applications' in upper left and you will see the Mopars they make them for....prob 50 bucks for set of 4

I used a clear vinyl film that goes on like window film. Cut it to cover where you want and it keeps the stones from chipping the paint. Some newer cars have this same type of film on them.  :2cents:

I had a set of the no-drill clip on flaps, front and rear on the '71.  The flaps came off when the car was trailered out to me from Nevada (they used the straps that hold down over the tires).  The clips are still there though so I could still try to fit new ones.

It depends on how/when it gets driven in that someday day when its done.  If I don't think I'll be driving it much where there's loose crap on the roads, I won't put them on.  If I do end up driving a bit then I probably will.

Those Jaeger units look like a good possibility.

When I use to work in the body shop my boss used these clear ones that clipped on. I'm not sure were he got them. :clueless:

I put my mud flaps on after my new $300 paint job back in 1975.  Still have 'em on and they're still doing a great job of protecting the paint.

I've bought a set of the Jaeger flaps but haven't put them on yet.  Personally, I don't mind mudflaps on cars - sort of period correct anyway and better than stone chips.
