Help installing vinyl trim moulding on a 73 cuda
« on: March 01, 2008 - 02:34:41 AM »
Can someone give me the steps on how to install the two pieces of vinyl trim moulding?  I have the correct fasteners from R/T specialties but I don't know where and how to start.  I can see where the two holes are for the special trim screws, but how do I install the plastic fasteners and those "other ones” with a plastic dowel.  I really appreciate it

The dowl clips work like this: put them up against where they go with the hole aligned. Then, you put the dowl through, once it "seats" (flush with the outer edge) it will have spread out the little tabs and is now held in place.

I hope that makes sense

Thank Wally,  Do you know what hole(s) they go into?  Once you insert them on the car, than do you push the moulding over the top of them or try to slide the moulding onto them?  Why do they use the dowl clips along with the normal sliding clip?  Also, I've never put moulding on like this before, and having bought the car in piece I didn't take it off. So how do you put the moulding on? Do you start at the front of the car and work back or vice-versa :dunno:

well, i cant say exactly. my car has different style moulding that has "stud" clips. they push through and bolt from inside the car. I would start by putting the 2 peices together at the center "back" and center it up on the car, then push from center outward. i would say it just pushes on a snaps, if its the clips i am thinking of. Sorry its so vague. Maybe post some pics when you get a chance.

I've posted pics now.  That should help.  Just thought of something does a 73 cuda use the dowl clips?

Ok I figured it out.  Basically you snap the moulding onto the clips.  Too easy
