Boyd Coddington passed away.....

Boyd was a brash type of a personalty. But like others said, a true visionary of Hot Rodding. RIP Boyd.

Wither you liked him or not, you have to agree that he did a lot for the hot rodding industry.  And, he had a way of making minor changes to cars, which totally changed there looks.

You will be missed Boyd!

Hated to hear the news. Met him in 2006. Seemed like a decent guy really, despite the negative publicity. RIP

While I never was a fan of him I saw a couple of his creations that I would drive. I think he had a love him or hate him attitude.
I do know he did alot for kids and loved to see them happy. For that I salute him. RIP.

All I can say is run your own shop for 25 years, put up with the BS, the personalities (employee & customer), the thieves, the idiots, the government, ect......  it can give you a way different perspective................

I think it was the TV shows. I knew of him, and liked his cars, but never really had an opinion of him, other than admiration. Then, when I watched his shows, I just started to dislike him, as he seemed to be petty and egotistic. But, a lot of times, the TV producers decide how they want someone to be perceived, and they go with what they think will boost their ratings, instead of what is real.

I never met him or knew him , but the show did nothing to improve his image as well as the switched vin scam on some of the rods he built , ... not a fan , but my condolences anyway

I think the big loser on his show was the shop foreman. That guy was Grade A A$5 Hole material. Boyd wouldn't by far have been the worst boss I worked for if I was an employee of his but that bald guy that was always runnin his trap definately would have been.
I have bad mouthed Boyd before and wholly admit it but after someone passes it makes you add up the sum total of likes and dis-likes about them because it's your final answer and opinion.
Whether or not you think he was talented or a swell guy you have to factor in that he loved his family, little kids in general, left an undeniable mark on Hotrodding for the whole world to see(not just gearheads), and he MADE it, he used to be a mechanic at Disneyland and rose to be THE biggest name in the industry at one time.
What's your final answer, I think he was a great guy looking back on it in retrospect.

Sorry to hear of his passing!!  I enjoyed his show & loved his cars. He will definitely be missed in the Hot-Rod world. He was greatly respected and definitely made his mark!!

I just saw this on the Comcast home-page news blips...  It's hard to believe!

I too am a member of the "not really a fan" group - I saw the show a few times and basically after the few I saw, decided "I'll never buy a Boyd Coddington car."  The people he employed... ...not the A-team, if you ask me.  And yeah, he always seemed like a jerk, too.  But that's just my opinion based on a TV show, which granted all they want to show is the controversy anyways...

Still, dying at 63 is no laughing matter - that's very sad and scary to me, as someone not in the best shape myself.  I am very curious to learn what happened, but no news sites are saying at this point.

He will surely be missed, and my thoughts go out to his friends and family.

I just read this on another forum and figured I'd check it out here.  R.I.P. Boyd.  Even though I never got into the 'reality' show they gave him, his work was always amazing and very unique.  He will be missed in the automotive industry.
