No, just mark the top cover ( the threaded big cover towards the steeringwheel) before you remoove it so you get the same pressure on the
bearing you had before unless your steeringbox is worn mechanicly and not only leaking.

The mechanicals seem to be in good shape, just 38 year old seals. What technic or tool do you use to take the top cover off?

The pitman seal is leaking on mine also, is that more complicated?

the pitman seal can be changed by removing the arm & replacing the seal

Toolnames in english is sometimes not that easy but I used a large screwdriver and a hammer and carefully hit the openings in the
topcover teethsurounding ( was that correct???).  :feedback:

I understand what you mean Belguim Cuda. I am pretty good with a hammer and punch. :icon16:

Thanks Chryco, do you pry the old Pitman seal out with a screw driver or some other tool?

Why not make 2 small holes in it and put 2 schrews in there and pull it out. Planned to do that on the top one before I decided to open it.  :grinyes:

Good idea, thanks. Smaller screws then the gap betwen the seal walls, maybe #6's. :dunno:
