8 & 3/4 question
«
on:

I know that a #2 housing uses a different ring and pinion than the #9 housing. My question is what does an X housing use? Is it the same as #2 or #9?
Thanks,
Tod

I don't recall an X housing. Do you have a picture?

Big pic so you can see the X. They made them I just don't know if anything interchanges with 2 or 9.

It's just another X above the filler plug. No numbers.

Ive heard that the 741 cases were marked with an"X". If its a 741 than it will not exchange the ring and pinion with a 742 or a 489, you'll need a r&p for a 741.

I will look up a 741 case and see what I can find. Thanks.

I have never seen one without ANY numbers.
Maybe it is out of that '67 Challenger that was in HOT ROD a while back!

72bluNblu you are right. The X case or housing is the 741. It does not seem that any part of it is interchangeable with the #2 or #9. Thanks.

Glad I could help!
Ive got an "X" case 741 in my challenger and was doing research ( just bought a 742 posi 3rd on ebay). Not sure what kind of posi is in the 9.25, doesn't look like the clutch type but I could be wrong. Good luck!

On the 9.25 I am just trying to figure out if it is a sure grip or an open unit. I thought it was a sure grip and then was questioned about it. It is on Ebay and I don't want to mislead anyone. Thanks again.
