Ever feel like you have been hamstrung on a car?
« on: April 03, 2008 - 06:58:13 AM »
A supposed buddy of mine called me a few weeks back to tell me he found an original owner Challenger sitting in an old mans garage and he wanted 1200 for it. He asked me what I would do with it if I were to buy it. I told him it depended on the car and that if it was desireable I would keep it. Well this Chevy loving nimrod told me he wanted to find someone who would flip it on ebay and pay him a percentage. I told him if it was something I decided to keep I would pay him a 1500 dollar finders fee. That was the last I heard about from him. I asked everyone in the hobby I could think of and NO ONE could remember this car. I find out yesterday that a local mopar collector just bought a light metallic green 318 car from the original owner that had been sitting for over 25 years in his garage for 6500 bucks. It gets better, it has a black vinyl top and is a factory sunroof car. I am so peeved at that guy for looking for a better deal on a finders fee or percentage that he ended up letting the guy put it up for sale on a local flea market radio program called "Lets trade even"  :hyper: I just had to vent a little. I will go by the guys house and try to get some pics, its supposed to be a survivor and pretty cherry from what I hear.

It is amazing when greed is a factor, you really findout who your freinds are............... Can not see why he needed to make a killing before helping out a freind  That is most likely why i will never be a rich man with wealth but i make up for it with people who care, hey i am rich after all. :2thumbs:  :dogpile:

:iagree:  Yep, I agree with you guys.  Greed makes people do funny things...  Unfortunately I know some people that have had loved ones pass away and now the daggers are out to see who gets what....sad.

1200$ and 1500$....

why didnt these "friends" just buy the cars themselves and try to make all the money, and not just finders fees ?

If they were really greedy, wouldnt they just do that ?

I think you guys should demand proof, or call BS on them.

Those guys suck.  In the past 5 years I've lucked out and bought a $1,000 69 Camaro Pace Car (from a Ford fan) and a $1,200 Road Runner.  Both were sold to friends for very little (and disclosed) markup, since they were in a position to restore them at the time and I wasn't.  You really get to know who your true 'friends' are at times like this.

Well it turns out the guy I know did not know the exact whereabouts of the car. He knew it was for sale and for about how much it could be bought but his "buddy" would not disclose the address so he could not tell me anyway. I know now that I dont have the whole picture and need to see the car before making any more snap judgements. Turns out the car most likely has an aftermarket sunroof, either that or the buyer is an idiot because his plans are to weld up the sunroof. I apologized to the guy for ASSUMING (there is that word that always bites me in the backside) he hamstrung me on the deal. Sucks when you only get half the story and then are left to stew overnight. My thread was the first chance I had to vent about my frustration at losing a chance at a factory sunroof car. Sorry to mislead you guys.
