Diesel 1000 mile trip @ 20mpg @$4.03/gallon= $201.50 in fuel or 20cents/mile
Gas same trip @14mpg @3.24/gallon=$231.43 in fuel or 23cents/mile

15,000 miles/year =3000 for diesel and 3471.45 for gas

yeah I am not as up on the newest trucks , with the lift pump in tank that will be a better solution for sure , however I have a friend with the 04 & he has had to replace the wheel brgs & front stabilizer at 125,000 Km so the front end doesn`t seem any better than the 94-02

I bet your friend goes through the mud and muck, or has overside tires and rims with big offset. If your front stabilizer is a shimmy shock or a sway bar end link that sounds like normal wear and tear to me.

My `97 has dana 60`s front and rear with 4.10s,do the newer 2500s have the same axles and what gear choices do I have?

I'm reading into this thread and it sounds like you want a Hemi. The axles are American Axle Manufacturing(AAM) The front is a 9.25" and the rear with a gas motor is a 10.5" with a standard ratio of 3.73:1 or optional 4.10:1.  The Hemi has 16 spark plugs and does have EGR valve issues along with evaporative emmision concerns. The trans is the 545rfe and has been very trouble free.

Actually no he babys his truck , ,to my knowledge it has never been offroad, it has factory tires & Mags on it , no lift kit , he is meticulous closing on anal about maintainence & just taking care of the truck , he will not even get onto the throttle until the temp guage starts to move  , yet at 125,000 he started getting a death wobble in the front end at highway speeds , the front end was bad already & he couldn`t believe it & told me that he had never beat on his truck ever & was very disappointed that he had these problems with so little milage on it

I guess the discrepency is what is considered a lot of miles then. 125K is a lot of miles to me. Wearable things do wear out.

Both sides of my front end have been done at less than 100k miles but  plowing wears them out sooner.
