Difference in Rims
« on: April 16, 2008 - 09:19:00 PM »
As many may know, I'm in search for a Rallye rim for my 73 Cuda.  I've got a 14x5.5 on there now, but I can't find a new one anywhere.  Summit Racing has a 14x6, so what would be the difference between the 2 (besides the obvious)?  Would it hurt the car to have 1 14x5.5 and another 14x6 on the rear?

Your tire profile will be different. I use this with a thimble on the oval track with a thimble [5.5-6.5] it ha gained about 2/10 of a second. According to my charts about .37" smaller in dia. I think it would be like driving with a low tire, and you may not feel it.

If I had to, I would buy a pair. So you have the same size on the back. :2cents:

dont want different tire heights on the rear. so if you do, put the different ones on the front

Different size tires on the front is unsafe. All of your steering & most of your braking is from the front. Having it unequal from side to side is asking for trouble.

Buy two matching rims and deal with it that way as suggested above.  :2cents:

:iagree:  Alaskan_TA is right, if you have to, put it in the spare and then only use it as an emergency, won't hurt for short distances for a short time.   :2thumbs:

Just picked up that rim....I asked the seller some ?'s about it and he said on a scale of 1-10 it's a 7...with 1 being totally rusted out and 10 being show condition.  I'll let you guys know how it looks when it comes in, but so far so good....66 bucks!   :woohoo:
