Why is gas always priced with 9/10 of a cent? As if 3.55 is not enough its 3.55 9/10

just like .99 sounds cheaper than 1.00....& a cars is priced 29,999..rather than 30,000
we all know it but it works, were spending the extra 9/10s & are too stupid to realise it

Just thought of this...the business software we bought 2 years ago "rounds" every price over $50.00 to end in 9.99
so if the standard markup put it at $50.01 the computer shows $59.99...I cant find a way to stop it.
