So what's special about the 915 heads that make them rare?

They are a closed chamber head and flow like the 906's. I had some done by a pro sho. On a super flo bench. He told me the exhausts flow 10% more out then the intake in. 906's flow 10% more in then out.   :clueless:  make sense to you.  They are a 1 yr option and hard to get...that's the bb 915 not the sm blk

915 has 2.08 intake and 1.74 exhaust
906 has 2.08 intake and 1.74 exhaust
The difference between the two are the combustion chamber.  Nothing else measures different aside from the combustion chamber wall.  915 being closed and the 906 being open.  So this makes more thermal effeciency and more power with less effort.  So the 906 has a larger quench area which uses more which means it uses more effeciency to make the same power as the 915.  More likely to have detination issues at the same power ratio as the closed chamber head.  So basically a 915 is the best starting head to work with.
Honestly it seems that if you are going to buy pistons and put some work into the head it doesn't really matter which head you have.  Unless you are trying to make a year correct block.  915's were only available in 1967.  Only in a GTX,coronet RT, charger RT or a special order 375 horse 440.
So is all of this correct?  I believe so.  Why does everyone seem to like the 915's any way.  Is there a specific reason?

Josh, back in the day, piston changes were expensive. Head changing to up the compression was easier. If you were not going to pull the engine and keep the same pistons, this was the head to get. Also the 915 heads came with some non hp engines and had a 208 160 valve size too.
