Monroe Shocks?

I did some research on rear shocks on this board and some people mentioned Monroe shocks.   I found them at autopartswarehouse.com for $17 a piece for the rear shocks?  Is something wrong here?  It's hard to believe that these are very good quality for such a low price.  Thanks for the help.

Monroe make different quality shocks , but the overall quality is decent , you probably got the base non gas type for that price

  Monroe shockers here in Australia are regarded as decent starting shocks, gas is a must. Of course there are many more expensive if you want to pay the price.

  They are decent, and quality comes with price.  The more you pay the better the shock

They are a good starting point for a stock ratio suspension. Their gas matics will work decent up to XHD leaf springs (around 130-140# rate) and 1.0 torsion bars. Anything above that require more shock control.

Yes, Monroe has several levels of shocks that go up in price. Their basic shock is entry level, Gas matic is next step up, then Sensa-trac, and they have recently come out with a new inertia sensitive unit.

thats what i just put on the back of mine a set of monroes part #32073.  they are nice shocks ive sold them over the counter for years.  17 bucks online is about the right price i paid 15 and change for mine over the counter i get around 22. 

when it comes to parts the more it fits the cheaper it is.  thats why a gm hei distributor cap is 8 bucks while one for a honda costs 25.  those shocks fit e bodies and b bodies and a bodies for close to a decade.  as a parts guy i wish todays oems had that level of interchangeability.

     MOPAR has always had good interchangability. Monroe do make shockers for lowered suspensions, not sure if they make em for MOPARS in America, definitly not in Australia, but you have a bigger market in America than we do.

I used sensa-tracks on some of my BIG GM converts (the BIG Girl included!) If they can make one of those boats handle better I'm sure they can do wonders on an E-BOD!
