fuel level sending unit
« on: May 03, 2008 - 01:46:17 PM »
The wire that leads to my sending unit was discoonected when i bought it.  when i tryed to put it on, it seems that it will not slide over the post.  It is getting caught on a rubber grommet on the outside of the post.  Is it the wrong sending unit, or can i cut the grommet off?

It should be like a black plastic stand with a threaded stem sticking up, then your wire is a female receptor with a rubber shield enclosed around it. Is it hard and brittle?

The same thing happens to the neutral safety switch too. I try to heat up the rubber with my lighter untill it is soft, then I push it on. It doesnt melt/stick to the sender just reforms itself. Not sure where to get a new one.

I was too much of a sissy to use a lighter that close to the tank, used a heat gun instead...............  didn't want a darwin award...............
