TTI Exhaust and tips question
« on: May 05, 2008 - 04:44:19 PM »
In the middle of installing my TTI exhaust and find that they do not meet up with the hedman hedders that I had bought.  Anyone else have this problem.  Is there an aluminized extension I can use (off of the shelf) so it does not look too mickey mouse.  Also, how far out should the chrome exhaust tips stick out?  One inch?

Appreciate it.

Did they mention on their website that the exhaust would clear? I was on the understanding it was specifically designed to fit their brand of headers.

The TTI exhaust is aluminized from the get go so making your own adaptor should be fine. My tips stick out just enough to read the TTI logo on the side which I would guess is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches out. I would measure it for you but the car is not here right now. :2thumbs:

As a dealer for tti I have seen this has happened many times, I am unsure where you purchased your exhaust from but the vendor should have asked you "what headers are you connecting the exhaust to", and if it was tti that sold you them, shame shame on them.....
tti has the adapters for a few of the different header mfg and size headers to  help fit it all together, header lengths very from one manufacture to another.
Another problem that happends too often is someone wants to purchase the exhaust and not the exhaust and mufflers because they want to use there own and, guess what, the exhaust are designed in length to use there muffler, if your muffler is 1" too short, they don't butt up and fit correctly......

:iagree:  One of the advantages of paying that little bit extra is that TTi back up our mistakes with product to help us over come those problems, other wise people will say it is TTi's fault...
How many people refer to the Headman headers or others not lining up with brand X....   :stirpot:

I had called TTI a while back with a similar issue. They sell a universal adapter (2) that has a 90 degree bend. They had advised me that this adapter would have to be modified to fit any header. What you have to is get softer metal tube as a guide, you bend that tube to match the space from the collecter to the exhaust pipe  to get your measurement..  Then you cut the adapter in the middle of the 90 degree bend....  Then you take the "soft metal" tube that you had used as a guide and you place that in the adapter that you had just cut. Pair up the 2 cut pieces (by twisting) and then weld them together at that angle....   Then attach the adapter to the collector and the pipe... Remember, measure twice and cut once....  and in this case measure twice and weld once...........   They had also told me that if you have a 4 speed (with a BB), the reverse rod will hit the "H" or "X" pipe...  You will have to purchase a modified rod if this is the case.....................   Call them direct if you have any issues... They are very helpful...
