I think that is what is called a 7 1/4 diff, was used mainly for low horse power vehicles.  You want an 8 3/4 at the very least. :2thumbs:

Thats an 8 1/4" diff, its okay for very mild small blocks in my opinion. I wouldn't run one even with my 318 however.

I heard that you can build up an 8 1/4" diff to withstand some power.  I would not try to race with one, but a mild street machine (350hp or less) in a light car (3200 or less) should be fine.

I had a 7 1/4 in my Challenger for several years and it handled a beating and never had a problem.  I now have an 8 3/4.

8 3/4 are tough , basically second only to the DAna , they are very strong for all but serious racing with slicks

I would keep your original rear-end and get the gears replaced or get a complete center section out of another car. Do not install the other Polara one.

Maybe adjust your bearing play? mine was noisy at one time, until i replaced a bearing and adjusted it the right way.
