Pistol grip w/Competion Plus shifter
« on: June 05, 2008 - 08:19:27 PM »

First  OEM for 1970 was Hurst Competion Plus ,right or wrong??????     Do they shift any good?  Mine is new but shifts terrible 1st and reverse are really really close and going to 3rd is not as smooth as I would expect  4th seems ok , but all things considered this shifter is either junk or needs some adjustments.......   So how is yours, smooth or not smooth?

I think you better re adjust your levers. My 70 original goes in everything just the way it should. When you get it right it really just goes right to where it needs to. Everything is smooth here. But I do know if you have a side cover off about 1/8th it will make shifting troublesome

You use  what I think is a 1/4 inch allen wrench in a slot under the shifter. This aligns the levers all in a neutral row. With the levers secure, you adjust the rods so that the linkage tabs fit with ease on the transmission. The tabs need to be for your car and not for like a 68 road runner. It sounds like you have 1 rod out of adjustment, making the cross over from second to 3rd hard. Should be an easy fix.

Yer welcome. I need to do it again myself since I just did a new clutch on my car. Chryco made a comment that mine was a bit off again and he wanted to adjust it for me. I wouldnt let him. It is hard to keep that man from tinkering on your stuff when he visits. I knew mine was off some, but not bothersome. As it was, he still ended up playing with my car some.
