Six pack diaphragm spring

Well the weather was finally nice enough today to take my Challenger out and try the new six pack set up  out. it runs GREAT, I love it . the only issue I have that needs attention is the outboards are a little slow to come in. or I think anyway, when you nail it theres a little lag so I'm guessing it's a slow outboard reaction.  everything is adjusted as specified, so I put in lighter diaphram springs right? any idea of what ones to use or where to get them would be great.

$10.95 per set and you will need two.
Open too fast and you will feel a stumble.
Don't confuse a stumble and a kick when the secondaries recover as the car being fast. You should get them to open as fast as your motor can take them. it should feel very smooth, you should not feel them "kick" open as far as a sudden rush

Thanks,  it just kind of slowly speeds up when you floor it for about a second or two then goes like a scalded dog. I can live with it but if a few springs will make it better I'll give it a try.

when you can feel a lag generally the secondaries are opening slightly too soon , if they are late you won`t feel it , I would change 1 spring at a time & you do not need to have the same spring in both the front & rear as it is a combination of the pressure of both springs

interesting, I've always run mechanical secondaries so this is new to me. just playing with it and opening the throttle by hand watching it I can't even get the outboards to start to open is why I guessed they're late.  maybe that won't tell anything?

with no load on the engine there is no way you will have enough time RPM wise to get them to open up so you need to sit under the hood while some else drives  :bigsmile:

CPs right. Bog is too fast. Never tried stagger ing the springs tho...:clueless:. I'll have to try that one.

By bog do you mean slow down then jump up? it isn't doing that it just speeds up a little just like it's gutless then after a second or so it takes off hard.  I'll find a spring set and start playing with it , I'm just trying to figure out which direction to try first.

Are you sure the throttle plates and shafts are very smooth and easy to open with no effort?  In the day, there was a recall on the carbs because the butterflies would try to stick.  I can actually watch my outboards start to open up when I hit it under the hood. They start to open up at around 1800 when I am driving. It is very clean and smooth. I run the factory springs. Are you sure your vacuum lines are hooked to the right port on the center carb? Just wondering. One goes to the advance and the other to the tee. Not sure of your set up, but you got a lot of good pointers from the other members just now.

According to the book I have everything hooked up correct. I know what you mean about the sticking, I had to adjust it a little to hold the plates from coming all the way closed or they do want to stick.  the springs will be here tomarrow and I'll see what I can do. it runs great, just not as smooth of transition as I'd like.
