What type of shop can check my rim to see if it is in true round? I have checked a couple tire shops but have not found any to help. Is it a body shop that I need?

Way back when, in my home town, there was a front end shop that straightened wheels, so you might seek out some of the oldest businesses. There seem to be a lot of businesses repairing aluminum wheels, maybe they can handle.

A good machine shop will have the means to check the rim for roundness and wobble. Providing a spindle, bearings, and front hub would improve the results. The rims "roundness" is in the end relates to the wheel "bearing" center.
You can do a check with the wheels on the car using a fixed pointer against the rim bead. Spin the tire and see where the pointer drags on the rim. A pencil works well to leave a witness mark. That's how I true my motorcycle rims using the spokes.

You can use a Dial indicator also, that will tell you exactly how much runnout the wheel has.
