I'm trying to figure out why Dextron III is recommended "within this website" for the 727 autotrans over the factory recommendation?  What are the pro's and con's?

Thanks Guys,

Lets see if "Tactransman" can answer this?  I'm flushing the trans now and somewhere in this site there was a post that said to use Dextron III.   I thought\assumed chysler\dodge transmissions wanted a different type of transmission fuild, but for the life of me I don't know what type???  DAAAAA............... :clueless:

I know the newer stuff is ATF+4 for chrysler. I've always heard Dexron III is the refill, Type F if you want a little firmer shift. However that is on the fence for shift firmness..

I believe 727'/904's used Dextron from new, replaced by DexII now DextronIII. The type "F" can be used to provide a firmer shift or less slip? :clueless:

Can Type F be mixed with Dextron?

Tom

Just wondering as I'd like to firm up my 904 until the 727 is ready.LOL  I don't think I could get all the Dex out.

It'd mix okay, do you have a shift kit of any kind? Just a heads up on i wouldn't expect any dramatic changes from the fluid change, minimal.

Type F was for Ford.  Dexron was (typically) for GM.  I believe I ran Dexron in my R/T.  Don't know if I'd want to mix 'em though.

I followed an article from Mopar Action a while back I think it showed a similar mod to the trans-go job.  Plus I had an old guage from a B+M kit to adjust the pressure.  Pretty good, just looking to get a little more life out of this old beat up 904.  The Stroker is putting some strain on her.

I might give it a go.

Tom

Plus I think my trans(727) will be done soon anyways, although I need a new shaft for it too.

I believe type II has been discoed & replaced with type 3 & 4
I have always heard to use ONLY type F or dextron & to initially fill the trans with type F after a rebuild if you want to use it , it is supposed to cause the clutches & bands to bite I bit harder

Dexron III is the easiest to get, cheapest to get and is very adequate for a 727/904. ATF+4 is fully synthetic and is  :money:  Type F is harder to get and I have seen no difference in shift quality with it.
