650 Demon carb??
« on: May 16, 2008 - 11:45:45 AM »
I believe my 340 is over carbed with the 750 mighty Demon.. don't think I have the cubes for it.. runs far to rich and dumps too much gas at the start too. So, my quesiton is.. what are some thoughts on the best carb to run?? I was looking to go to the 650 speed demon.. or the 650 mighty demon. The cam duration is 290°. 9.5:1..

thoughts..  Thanks, 71fish

I haven't found many people happy with Demons. More because of poor quality control than anything else. Any reason you want to stick with the Demon instead of going with a Holley?

the
Holley Street HP 750 is an awesome carb , or use a 750 Proform
Exorcize the Demon & buy something better

I have a mighty demon. If you are really savvy with them they are great but take a lot of time to understand. Overall mine has been ok I probably could have boughten something else and have been happy.

If you call Barry Grant and give them your engine specs, they will tell you what carb they make that is suited to your engine. They can seem snobby, but when given the right info can be very helpful. I can tell you that they will not recommend the 750 for your 340. It's more suited for a 440. They are a touchy animal to get right, but when properly tweeked will flow extremely well. I agree with Chryco. A Holley is practically bullit-proof and easy to tweek. They give great performance. By the way Chryco, I just ordered a Holley HP Street 750!!!  :woo: Edelbrock can give some problems. Some folks like them, but mine has an off-idle stumble that I can't seem to adjust out. Edelbrock is a good medium price carb. Demons are pricey. Go for a Holley!! Just my :2cents:

I don't like Demons on general principal; they are such a blatant copy of the Holley.  Couldn't they come up with their own design?  Give me the original.

No, no reason to go to a demon. I am just thinking now.. my 340 just doesn't have the cubes for a 750. It's more or less for driving now.. soo snappy response of a 650 is better for the car and me right now. Don't get me wrong this 340 runs.. by no reason to over carb it.
