Going completely by memory, so I may be way off, but I think the rod from the outside key lock to the door mechanism goes like this:
first insert the end of the rod with a couple of jogs into the hole on the little key tumbler lever and then the other end of the rod snaps into a little (not very obvious) plastic bushing hole on the mechanism. The rod connecting the outside door handle to the mechanism requires a little plastic clip that holds the rod into the door handle lever. Good luck.
